Many people ask me what led me into the field of mental health and ultimately, to become a licensed mental health counselor.
The reality is that there’s so many reasons why I got into this field.
Personal experiences with loved ones that I have watched struggle to navigate a complex mental health system, the sheer passion to help others and the desire to be a compassionate individual that is willing to meet the needs of our community.
When I think of the pure basis of our mental health, it tells a story of who we are, where we have been and where we would like to go.
If we ignore our thoughts and our feelings, we can become lost.
There are consequences if our thoughts and feelings aren’t identified, recognized, heard, validated, processed and in some cases released because that affects our mental health.
It hinders our growth with ourselves, the relationships we carry and the way we live and work. In families, we will see this as traumatic patterns that continue from generation to generation, if we do not break the cycle.
We all have mental health and I strive each day in my personal and professional life to nurture those needs. I am determined to not only contribute to my own mental health, but to help others live their lives authentically.
In my professional life, I’ve had the privilege and honor to work with our active duty military service men and women and their families, a psychiatric hospital for more than six years, Orange and Seminole County public schools, and with incarcerated individuals. I am serving families throughout Florida, Georgia and Missouri.
In each of these experiences, I’ve grown both professionally and I’ve been humbled to cherish the value that each of these families has brought into my life and practice.
I created Illuminating Pathways to create a lifeline to effective mental health care with respect and compassion.
I’d describe my style of therapy as eclectic in nature of varying types of therapy with my focal point being YOU! I strive to learn you as an individual and create an experience that allows you to thrive.
I enjoy reading, swimming, scuba diving, traveling and spending time with my family that includes my Labradoodle, Linus, and my Toy Poodle, Mr. Mo.
But my true passion is for helping people make that inner transformation in their life. It's what I look forward to each day.
I look forward to getting to know you and your family, too.
It takes courage to make that first step into therapy, but it can be one of the best decisions you make.
